Dachau Concentration Camp
"Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how’"
-Victor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor
The Dachau Concentration Camp was the first Nazi Concentration Camp
built. It was intended to hold political prisoners, and is located on
the grounds of an abandoned factory. It was open in 1933 by Heinrich Himmler,
and was meant to induced forced labour, and, eventually, the imprisonment of
Jews, German and Austrian criminals.
Stepping into the camp, the first words you see are "Arbeit Macht Frei",
meaning "Work sets you free"; a lie told to the prisoners kept in the camp. Walking
on the parade grounds of the park was solemn; the visitors at the camp were aware of the events
that took place here, thus not much could be heard apart from the sound of the crunching of the
gravel as we walked around. As I went from one memorial to another, I could only feel remorse and
sympathy to those whom had been kept here, or lost their lives here. As I roamed around the fencing
of the camp, I saw, that beyond the fences were blossoming flowers and greening flora, the inhabitants
of the forest were flourishing, thriving in their wonderous conditions, alongside each other, yet,
parallel to this, a camp, where us, the human race, found ways of ridding of our brothers and sisters,
just because they had chosen a different religion or political voice. All this, seperated by a fence;
a wall. Moving forward, we, has a human race shouldn't ever, have to build us walls to keep each other
in; only bridges, to bring each other only together.
Neuchwanstein
The Neuchwanstein Palace was built on the outskirts of Germany. It was so beautiful that Disney used the design of the castle for Sleeping Beauty's Castle and Cinderella's Castle. It's one thing to see a beautiful castle, but it is definitely another to know that countless other attraction styled castles were based on it.
Nymphenburg
A beautiful palace in Germany. The Nymphenburg Palace was built as a summer residence for Max Emanuel. This beautiful Palace sits facing a man made river. In the winter, it is common to see ducks gliding across the frozen surface of this river. Kids can be heard skipping rocks, making sci-fi like sounds as the rocks bounce on and off the surface of ice. Deeper into winter, it is also quite possible to see people skating on the river. A very heartwarming sight to behold.
Chandelier
Sia didn't swing from this one.
This is one of the interior chandeliers of the Nymphenburg Palace. And it is beautiful. When I was
visiting the palace, there were 3 couples taking their wedding photos over there. When I get married,
I, too, hope that I'd be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take my photos there as well.
Marienplatz
This is one of the most bustling areas of Munich. Marienplatz is surrounded by the city hall, several churches and countless beer houses. During the Christmas Season, there will be a Christmas market set up in Marienplatz, where locals sell their mulled wines, beers, and snacks. Some sell woodwork while others sell glasswork. Some even sell custom smithed metal items; striking away with their anvils and toasting the rods of metal to a bright yellow. These are just some of the sights and sounds of my favourite town square in Munich.
Lake Titisee
Deep in the Black Forest lies a town in front of this beautiful lake. This lake is called Lake Titisee. It resides by a small, quaint and quiet town, which is so very beautiful. Each morning, the church bells could be heard in the distance. The cute sound of ducks quacking and splashing into the water can be heard. While I was staying there, each morning, I'd get oats and feed the ducks. For some reason I love feeding ducks. When I came back at around 4pm, the Sun would be setting, just beyong the rightmost hill. The sky will be colored with hues of red, pink, orange and blue. Without fail. It was truely a beautiful sight. If I had to choose a place of retirement now, I'd say undoubtedly, it would be this beautiful place.
